MALA is a Classical Indian Music & Dance experience featuring 5th Generation Bansuri flute player Vinod Prasanna from Benares. Vinod will be supported on tabla by accomplished artist Shen Flindell. The evening will begin with Yuki Taniguchi as Yogeshwari Giri presenting Chhau Dance from East India.
Tickets are general admission – there will be space at the direct front of the stage for those who like to sit on the floor to receive the musical experience. Please bring a cushion and whatever else you need to be comfortable.
DOORS open at 6.00pm with Dinner available for purchase from 6.00pm, with chai and sweet treats. Concert start at 7.00pm.

VINOD PRASANNA belongs to one of the oldest Bansuri families in Benares, India. He has been playing since a young age, and at 14 made a decision to fully pursue his passion of the 250 years old family tradition. He studied rigorously under the tutelage of his Grandfather.

An award-winning bansuri (flute) virtuoso, Vinod Prasanna shines as an outstanding performer of authentic traditional and contemporary Indian music. Vinod’s emotive melodies, exquisite improvisations and divine flute song distinguish his performance of Indian classical, world and meditation music. Simply, Indian music at its finest. SHEN FLINDELL started learning tabla in Melbourne from Sri Debapriya Bhattacharya in 1994 and soon went to the holy city of Varanasi in India to study under Pandit Daviraj Ashutosh Bhattacharya, a great tabla master of the Benares Gharana. Since his guru-ji passed away in 2004, Shen has received training from a wide range of tabla masters including Pt Pooran Maharaj, Pt Govinda Chakraborty, Pt Nayan Ghosh, Pt Suresh Talwalkar and Sri Hari Om Hari (in light classical styles). In recent years Shen has taken up the Pakhawaj as a second instrument, with some guidance from Japanese Pakhawaji Sri Tetsuya Kaneko.
Shen is an accomplished player, best known for his beautiful sound and subtle, supportive accompaniment. Shen has a busy teaching schedule in Brisbane and the Gold Coast and performs regularly with visiting artists. YUKI TANIGUCHI is a Dhrupad vocalist, Yoga Teacher, Chhau & Butoh dancer. Yogeshwari Giri (a.k.a. Yuki Taniguchi) dances Shiva Tandava (Dance of Shiva) of Mayurbhanj Chhau, martial art dance from East India. Trained in Orissa from Padmashri Dr. Ileana Citaristi and Trilochan Mohanta, she was named as Yogeshwari by Shivraj Giri at Kumbha mela in Haridwar, 2010.
Yuki released a mantra/shloka cd called Nada Yoga, which is a compilation of a number of beautiful and prescriptive shlokas for our wellbeing. She regularly performs both Butoh and Chhau dance at Woodford Folk Festival, in Australia and in Japan, her home country.
